Minutes of the Rainbow/Whirlpool Health and Safety Committee

Old Business

  1. Rainbow Bridge Office Cleanliness continues to be an issue. Specific areas will be identified and Ben will meet with NFBC to discuss Ongoing
  2. A draft SOP on High risk procedures has been developed, not sent out yet. Committee to review.  Ongoing
  3. H1N1 Human swine flue outbreak   Masks for new students to be fitted.
  4. Tinting completed on P4. P11 to 15 require similar tinting, this is important now that the summer is here and the heat is a factor.
  5. The recommendations from the pedestrian walk ergonomic study that was completed several years ago have still not been addressed. This issue should be referred to the national H&S committee.
  6. Keyboard tray at Ped walk is still broken. Disorganized wiring of computers continues. Ongoing
  7. Request for cleaning supplies for RB lunchroom. Dishcloth should be replaced daily. E-mail will be sent out to staff from H&S committee requesting diligence in cleaning up after themselves.  Ongoing
  8.  Do not enter signs at Whirlpool  Ongoing
  9. There have been some concerns that vehicles are too far away from the booth at primary. This makes it difficult to reach the identification from the driver. Suggest purchase of orange construction cones to be placed to guide the vehicle closer to the booth. Ongoing
  10. Request to have the back/rear window of the pedestrian walk door darkly tinted.  Ongoing
  11. We have been informed by Fred Milligan that the Chief has agreed that Officers need at least 8 hours between their shifts in situations where they are unable to leave at the end of their shift for official reasons. Confirmation of the policy will follow. Ongoing

New Business

  1. Climate control in the booths continues to be an issue. NFBC has been working to address this issue and at he time of this report the air conditioning is working much better than last year. Officers are encouraged to ask for relief if the heat is making them uncomfortable.
  2. Ergonomics study of primary booths to be requested.
  3. Request to remove bilingual control buttons and speakers to make more room.
