Health & Safety - Swine Flu |
||
Sisters and Brothers,
In light of the growing number of confirmed cases of Swine Flu in Canada, CBSA is providing the employees with protective gloves and masks. However, CBSA's policy has remained that gloves and masks are available, but not mandatory when dealing with travellers who may have travelled to, or transited through Mexico.
For our member’s safety as well as to prevent any propagation to the population, CIU believes that the masks and gloves should be mandatory. Therefore, CIU is urging members to wear these protective pieces of equipment at all times when dealing with these travellers, and change them between each flight and/or searches.
In hopes this international outbreak soon dissipates, and without any intentions to create a panic, we ask our members to continue the diligent protection of Canada we have come to expect, while following appropriate safety measures and staying alert to any signs of illness.
In solidarity,
Ron Moran
National President
Jason McMichael
4th National Vice-President
