It has recently been brought to our attention that the requirement for visual acuity for the Duty Firearm Course is incorrectly indentified in the Policy on Training Pre-requisites on our intranet site. The Policy will be corrected immediately to reflect the vision requirement, standard (Class 1), that is recommended, and currently being used by Health Canada, to assess candidates.

Vision
A visual acuity of at least 20/60 for both eyes or 20/40 (better eye) and 20/100 (weaker eye). Vision correctable to 20/20 and 20/30 is also acceptable.

Vision
- Class 1 vision standard: corrected vision of 20/30 (6/9 in metric) in better eye, 20/50 (6/15 in metric) in other eye.
- Where a worker has congenital substandard vision in one eye, an exception may apply. Information on this exception can be found in Appendix D (Vision Standards) of the Health Canada Occupational Health Assessment Guide.
